Scary stuff .. I have seen up close family members undergoing treatment for a different cancer. Believe me, it is harsh, changes the rest of your life for the worse. .. Consider living in a townhouse and never having to handle these toxic chemicals ever. And saving oodles of your time for more fun stuff.

Or just don't use pesticides for your residential property.

Maybe I’m unique but growing up part of my chores (or punishment) as a kid was weeding - weeding the vegetable garden, weeding flower beds, weeding the stone driveway etc. - we would have never used chemicals around the house or on things you’re going to eat - we were definitely not a super “environmentally conscious” household but that just seemed like common sense…

Right? Grow some wild flowers instead of grass and plant some f*ckin trees. Americans love their yards but dont plant any trees. You know what creates shade?

I realized my rant is charged and unhinged. But idc. I hope at least 1 person sees this and pays the $200 to hire someone to plant a young tree in their yard.

Why didn't NASA or the news agencies rotate the image so North is up? and slightly to the right. That would make Africa instantly recognizable as that's how maps are imprinted in our brains.

There is no "up" in space, so that wouldn't be editing the image I feel. The camera just happened to be oriented "upside down".

I was thinking the same thing, but then I decided to embrace the frustration of the image. It's reminding us that the pictures we have in our heads are kind of fragile. They don't prepare us for a live encounter with Earth from some random angle in space.

This is kind of profound.

I personally prefer to view it in the same orientation the photographer saw it in their viewfinder. Makes me feel more like I’m inside the vessle looking at the planet.

If you live in the southern hemisphere most pictures of the Moon that you see online look upside down compared to ones that you take yourself.

I asked a different question in my mind, who says it "appears to us as upside down"? I would think if you lived in Patagonia, the south pole is "up".

I've been using their data reporting product for ever. It's not fancy but you'll be amazed at how many data people use it. Back then it used to be called "SQL Server Reporting Services" or "SSRS". It is now called Power BI Paginated Reports. Over the years, the product has gradually become worse. Publishing, subscriptions, several features are now hard to use. All in the service of Clippy and the Cloud.

I wish him all the best and good luck. Maybe in 50, 100 years we'll have more definitive cures for cancer. Till then it's mostly slash, burn and poison, unfortunately.

I am a paid subscriber to NYT and have been reading it paper / internet for 30+ years. It is an Enshittification winner in terms tracking and click bait. It doesn't feel like a serious news outlet anymore, feels like Huff Post or similar.

Yes this, I was a subscriber for about a decade even back then an adblocker was required for sane reading even with a subscription. I cant imagine what it looks like without an adblocker these days.

How about a general chat and then asking him about his health? If he comes out saying he's not feeling great, that would be an opening for more pointed advice. If not, maybe you could say something like you thought he was looking under the weather.
