Maybe I am missing the point, but "loose" dependencies go in setup.py, and "exact versions" go in requirements.txt.

Except that they will all be generated procedurally, and will be more entertaining than human-created versions!

I think the site is great! One minor annoyance: the volume gets reset to about 75% when I close the player completely and re-open it (but not when I switch to a new album with the player still open). The problem with that is that it is too loud for my setup, and I end up having to lower it each time. It would be great if it could remember its last value.

thanks p206.. we'll fix that ASAP :) Hope you found some music you love! cheers

This is more a comment on the video interview than the marcgayle.com post. I don't think Mr Calacanis' statements are incendiary. He explains eloquently what kind of people and attitude he is looking for, and doesn't seem to have a problem with people that don't match his requirements. I really don't see the problem with that.

I never said they were incendiary. I was simply pointing out that I would never want to have anything to do with him.

I wouldn't work for him. I wouldn't want him investing in my company. I would never partner with him.

There is no business relationship, that I can think of, that I would do with him.

But that's just my preference :)

sir, please don't introduce a fair and logical argument to a bash-Calacanis-on-HN thread or we will vote you down!

I am interested in code complete. I have "The Rails Way" by Fernandez and/or "Rails Recipes" by Fowler.

I'd be interested in The Rails Way, but I'll let you know in a week. I haven't yet figured out a way to swap with guarantees that I'll actually receive what I wanted. Now that I know someone is interested in it, I also decided to take it off of the bookshelf and see if I should actually read it.

I am willing to trade or give away Practical Cryptography by Niels Ferguson, Bruce Schneier.

I would love to accept it, would you like to trade for Rework, Just for Fun, Getting Real, or any of my numerous books on Java/Linux/C/Game development/AI/3D game development?

Sounds good. How about an AI introductory book, if you have any?

How does this look?

http://www.amazon.com/Programming-Game-Example-Mat-Buckland/...

It's based on C++, and covers state machines, fuzzy logic, etc. It's a little old so there is no mention of behavior trees, but it does cover goal-driven behavior and is a great introduction to most techniques in AI.

Another question could be "why are we often being told that ideas are worthless?" IMHO it's because the focus should be on getting things done instead of sitting around while trying to come up with a "perfect" idea. This advice is valid in a specific situation that companies in stealth mode are just not in.

Great idea, signed up right away. When setting up your account, selecting how much experience you have is a little confusing in my opinion: I have been a "professional" software developer for a few years, but still early in my career. Should I select "professional experience" or "little/some/average experience"?

This was mainly an issue of semantics (suggestions on wording appreciated). Just imagine them in order of least-to-most.

Well, I would remove the "professional experience" option. That's what confused me. Without it you still have 6 levels of granularity, that ought to be enough for anybody :)

Could someone explain the implications of both possible outcomes?

I believe that if they lose, they're pretty much dead, and if they win, they can resurrect their longshot lawsuits against IBM and others.
