Yep, it is a fat client with lousy performance. They tried to build Sketch + Principle in the same tool. Both those tools are super complicated software products. They should have created separate tools which complement each other.
Figma is definitely not a native app. It's a WebGL app that has been heavily optimized for performance, but it relies on a browser or browser-technology to do its job.
I think this depends on personalities. I worked in an open office where there were people going crazy because there were a bunch of loud extroverts. I am extroverted and cubicles make me develop bad habits like watching YouTube all day, and such. I need constant interaction with people. Ideating with other designers gives me life, and expands my creativity.
Nobody is saying it doesn't, but the two things are entirely independent from each other. It's not a competition between countries, it's a question of how people of earth can get the best lives for themselves.
