I feel like designers at Apple at large with others following in tow to emulate them have been waging a silent war against the scroll bar for a while now.

Making it less and less visible until it ultimately disappears sounds reasonable when infinite scrolling (and heavens forbid, scroll hijacking) has rendered it far less useful.
