This is post-hoc rationalization of the only kind of touch controls accessible to the average user. Nothing novel or pre-planned about these, and they certainly don't "teach" the users to do certain things (as much as apple fanboys might want it to). It's a generalized user-interface, not difficult or novel. In fact it's very unopinionated, contrary to what the article states.
